| Rhode Island: 24 hour Gambling Legislation Might Face Governor’s Veto |
The General Assembly has put forward amendments that allocate additional revenues from casinos into the coffers of the municipalities thus trying to make 24 hour gambling more attractive to the host communities of Lincoln and Newport, reported the Warwick Beacon, Rhode Island. However, certain Warwick members have been irritated by the amendments proposed. The amendment presupposes additional $1.1 million to Lincoln, and $200,000 to Newport. Being a part of a larger bill allowing 24 hour slot parlors, the amendment also anticipates $14 million to state aid to all communities. Nevertheless, that amount isn't considered additional since the language is expected to have little effect on actual budgets. Currently the bill is expected to be signed of rejected by the Governor. Jeff Neal, Governor Donald Carcieri's chief spokesman spoke with press, mentioning that most likely the bill will be interposed a veto on. Thus, the House will face the necessity to have enough votes to override Governor’s veto.
